We caught up with Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram as he chats about fast bowling, commentating and visiting Croatia.

First of all thanks Wasim for taking the time out of your busy schedule commentating the current one day series between Australia, India and Sri Lanka. Let’s start off with how you got into cricket.

How old were you when you first picked up a cricket ball and were you always a quick bowler?

I have been fascinated with this game for as long as I can remember, I was very young when I first fell in love with bowling and since then I’ve never looked for something else.

You took over 500 ODI wickets and over 400 test wickets, does one stand out for you? Were there any batsmen you didn’t enjoy bowling to?

Each of them have been memorable and comes with its own story, and each stands out on its own. As a bowler I’ve always enjoyed a diverse range of batsmen, it gave me an opportunity to test my potential and each one of them taught me something new about myself.

Your favourite country to tour and favourite ground you ever played at?

I can undoubtedly say ‘England’ and I guess the ‘MCG’.

Your now a commentator and currently doing the Australia / India series, how have you found that role?

It’s a completely new dimension to the game I’ve been associated with over 20 years now. I’ve much to learn for this kind of responsibility but I know I thoroughly enjoy it. Plus it’s my alibi to stay close to the field. *chuckles*

Have you ever visited Croatia? And did you know they celebrated 200 years of cricket in Croatia in 2009?

Unfortunately I’ve never been able to visit the country but I’ve certainly read about its celebration, after all where ever there is Cricket, I can’t miss it. I wish this beautiful country all the best in all its procedures and hopefully find myself a chance to visit its waters and more.

What advice could you give to aspiring fast bowlers here in Croatia?

Never stop trying! This game is filled with masters, it takes a lot of hard work and will power to make a mark here but that should not stop you from doing what you love best!
