PAKISTAN cricket great Wasim Akram and his Melbourne-born wife Shaniera have shared their joy about becoming parents to beautiful baby Aiyla.
Wasim, 48, told Confidential: “I am enjoying being a dad again. Last time, I was on the road playing for Pakistan and was hardly home. I never dreamed I would have any more children and this time around has been really enjoyable for me.”
The famed left-arm bowler has two sons, Tahmoor, 17, and Akbar, 14, from his first marriage. He paid tribute to Shaniera, 32, and his sons. “I am so proud of Shaniera. She made the pregnancy and birth look easy and never complained once.
“My boys are very excited to have a baby sister … and my in-laws have been a great support.” Aiyla, which means moonlight, was born in Melbourne on December 27.
“She is such a sweet, happy little soul, we are smitten with her,” Shaniera said. “I hope she has a wonderful life in this world … and let’s hope she her dad’s sporting ability, not mine!”
Wasim’s family is in Australia while he commentates on the Cricket World Cup for Star Sports. They will return to their home in Pakistan in late March. “I have completely fallen in love with her,” Wasim said, staring at his six-week-old princess. “She’s such a beautiful little girl.”
